My work in collaboration with Hadrien Rattez and Manolis Veveakis from Duke University on the regularization of strain localization is published in the Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids.

In this study, we looked at the role of rate-dependent plasticity and multiphysics coupling as regularization methods for strain localization problems. We showed that viscous terms together with the coupling to a diffusion-reaction equation can be sufficient to obtain a physical length-scale for strain localization and that – under given conditions – propagating waves can emerge.

This work was initated when I first visited Prof. Manolis Veveakis at Duke University in 2019.
